This is very different from anything I’ve read, just because of the setting of the story. The world of crime, the dynamics, it’s all very new. I liked it.
This the 2nd book in a series. It’s a shame that fact isn’t mentioned anywhere (that I could tell), including Goodreads, so just know you’re starting an independent story within a series. I didn’t like the fact there were references to the previous story which was a dark hole of information for me. But that’s just me.
Thanks Social Butterfly PR for the ARC in exchange for my honest review
Jake and Greg are very different as far as their pasts are concerned, but they currently lead very similar lives. Except for Jake’s tendency to sleep with everything that moves and Greg being secretly (or not so much) in love with him.
It’s clear that Jake has a reason for the way his life is led; the women, the alcohol. But really his story is heartbreaking and his HEA is very much due. There are bumps along the way, though, which they recover from, and they do it the right way.
I was a little bothered by the casualness of plot. I feel like there should’ve been more depth and more finesse to their relationship, to the way they interact. It was very rough around the edges.
I have no reference to the author’s writing as this is the first of her books I’ve read. I enjoyed the story a lot. I feel like had it been tighter, and the flow issues resolved – it would’ve been amazing.
Authors and PR people – you’re doing a great job, but let us reader choose whether or not we start a series from the very beginning or not. We can’t make that choice if we don’t even know it’s a series.
Sometimes the past won’t let you escape no matter how much your future wants you to.
Jake James lives in the shadows of his shame. The guilt for what he’s done, for what was done to him, has left him hollow and haunted.
Greg Bissen just wants Jake to let him in, having accepted who he is a long time ago, he is desperate to break through Jake’s defenses.
When danger and an agonizing loss threatens to tear them apart, will Jake let the burdens of his past crush him?
Or can love really conquer all, even if it’s hiding in between the secrets?
This book contains strong adult content that may not be suitable for readers sensitive to hard to read subjects.
