Claiming His Chance by Ellis Leigh

Sooooo….. turns out Ellis Leigh is awesome beyond what I thought I knew her awesomeness to be, and now that she’s concluded the Feral Breed boys’ stories, we get to have the other characters’ stories. This new series is Feral Breed Following.

And she kicks it off with Cahill from the Appalachian pack. Quick reminder, we met them first at a gathering… alpha Killian… rings a bell? Good.

The Appalachian pack is in a substantial debt to some wolfish version of a brute squad. when they left to find their abducted Omega, they left the pack with the ‘brute squad’s’ protection. Now, months later, the debt is a lot higher than expected, and the way to clear it is cage fights.

Cahill taking his alpha’s (Killian) place is what brings him to a place where he finds what he never thought he will – his mate. Having read all Feral Breed and Gathering stories, I know the initial reaction and instant need and desire when one finds his mate. Which makes Trinity’s situation a huge problem.

Trinity and her cousin Piers are runaways and in order to protect each other, they pretend to be mates. As Trinity’s cousin a fighter in that same place, with numbered fights left, Trinity is hoping she can leave soon and live her life, helping other lone shifters.

There’s a delicate situation of Cahill’s need for Trinity (and her’s for him) while not jeopardizing her safety and Piers’. The way Leigh develops the story and deals with the new romance and the situation at the fight club.

Adding to all that is the fact that Piers, and therefore Trinity, keep a potentially dangerous secret.

This longish novella has had me back in Leigh’s shifters world in a blink of an eye and it was an incredible feeling to have again. I loved Cahill, his fierce desire to protecting his pack and his mate, his strong character and determination, and I love how Trinity’s compassion and drive help her be what she’s always wanted to be while still protecting her family.

I’m now insanely curious about Piers’ story. His is bound to be a thrill, for reasons I won’t get into in this review.

Thanks Ellis for the early copy in exchange for my review.

The Feral Breed Followings Series kicks off with one heck of a fight…

After a long year of tragedy and battles, Cahill of the Southern Appalachia pack is hoping to spend a little time alone on his mountain. But with no mate to worry about, the safety of the pack falls on his shoulders, as does paying off the guards he’d hired to keep the mountain safe while he was away. Protecting the pack means heading off to participate in an underground fight club where shifters take to the ring for fame, fortune, and debt repayment. A ring some don’t make it out of alive.

To the owners and fighters at The Pack House, Trinity and Piers seem like any other mated couple. And that’s exactly what she needs them to think. Years of running from the truth has set Piers on a path headed right into the fight cage, and Trinity has followed, even though the violence and the noise are something out of her nightmares. But the two have plans, and a handful of fights is all that stands between them reaching their dreams and banishment…or death.

When Cahill sets his sights on Trinity, nothing can stand in the way of the fighter getting his fated mate. Not the heavy debt his pack must repay, not the other fighters out to show him who’s stronger and more skilled in the ring, not even the possibility that she may be mated to another. Once a fighter, always a fighter—and Cahill’s more determined than ever to throw a knockout punch for the chance of a real win with the woman of his dreams.

A storyteller from the time she could talk, Ellis grew up among family legends of hauntings, psychics, and love spanning decades. Those stories didn’t always have the happiest of endings, so they inspired her to write about real life, real love, and the difficulties therein. From farmers to werewolves, store clerks to witches—if there’s love to be found, she’ll write about it. Ellis lives in the Chicago area with her husband, daughters, and a giant dog who hogs the bed.

I read, review, flail and swoon.
