Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters his biggest complication yet—a seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.
A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo shop following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with the criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights . . . and in his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.
Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

This book killed my heart in the best of ways. I fell in love with this boys reading Hard As It Gets and I loved every word written in the following books.
The book picks up right where the last one ended, with the team still trying to recover from losing the two MC allies and Jeremy almost dying on the roof collapsing at Hard Ink. Beckett Murda is still haunted by God knows what, and Katherine Rixey is trying to figure out what the hell is going on in her brothers’ lives.
A week prior, Katherine Rixey, Nick and Jeremy’s sister, stops by for a surprise visit only to stumble upon a gun barrel. Held by Beckett. Or should we call him Trigger? LOL. Meeting this way paves the way to how their relationship develops. And it’s a lovely combination of steamy encounters and uninhibited anger. From both of them.
With the team figuring out another piece in the puzzle, they need to get some information that is rather hard to get to. This is where Kat fits in, and with half the team against her involvement, the other half realizes they must take advantage of her position as an attorney to keep going with their investigation.
Beckett has so many issues that are coming to light in this book and Katherine is bringing his walls down, slowly, with some emotional backpaddling and confused growing feelings. He is on one hand very much alone and on the other, incredible blessed with his former military family and their significant others. His involvement in the last steps taken in their investigation to clearing their names is crucial and literally had me at the edge of my seat reading most of the book. He is smart and protective and his every action is a calculation mixed with a little praying that things will turn out well.
A few things mesh together in this story: The reason Kat is visiting, the team’s investigation and Murda’s past. Weave into this mix Beckett and Kat’s animal attraction that’s already mixed with this weird fighting (from minute one when Beckett pulled a gun on Kat upon finding her wandering Hard Ink) and you get a thrilling, fast paced, erotic, funny and incredibly fun to read page turner.
And of course, the boys getting everything they deserved from the very beginning was the cherry on the icing of this series very delicious cake.
Kaye weaved six beautiful, cleverly crafted love stories into the one story timeline, giving us readers six books (4 novels and 2 novellas) that for me, will always be a superb contemporary romance series with a touch of mystery, great sex scenes and thrilling writing.
My rating: 5 stars
When Beckett finally withdrew from her, Kat missed him everywhere. His heat. His hold. His body inside hers. But he gently turned her, then grabbed some napkins from the supplies. Kat cleaned herself up and they quietly reassembled themselves. All the while, she hoped like hell that things wouldn’t go from awesome to weird as they had before.
Expression serious, Beckett took her hands in his.
And Kat’s heart fell to the floor. Here it comes again. She could already hear him saying that this was a mistake—
“I don’t want to hide us anymore,” he said.
Wait. What? “You … what?” His words were so unexpected, she half felt like she’d just walked, cartoonlike, into a pole she hadn’t known was there.
“I don’t know what we might be, Kat, but I know what I want us not to be. I don’t want us to be some dirty little secret. And I don’t want us to pretend around everyone else that we don’t care. And I don’t want us to just be quickies in a sniper’s roost.” Those bright blue eyes absolutely blazed at her.
Kat’s head spun. Not because she didn’t like the sound of what he was saying, but because she was gobsmacked that he was the one saying it. Mostly, she’d contented herself with thinking quickies in a sniper’s roost were all they’d ever be, no matter how much her heart found deeper, sweeter things to like about the man.
“I won’t say anything if you don’t want me to, though,” he said, brow furrowing and shoulders sagging. Just the littlest bit.
But it was enough to make her realize she hadn’t responded adequately, or, like, at all. “No, no. I’m sorry. I’m just surprised. But I’d like not hiding, too. At first, well, I wasn’t sure …” She shrugged. “But there’s clearly something here, Beckett. And I’d like to know what it might be without feeling like we’re doing something wrong.”
“Exactly,” he said, hope filling his eyes. And God if that didn’t make them even prettier.
She smiled as butterflies whipped through her belly. Kinda ridiculous, given that she was a twenty-nine-year-old woman, but the feeling was there all the same. “So, uh, what were you thinking? And, oh, by the way, I’m pretty sure Jeremy might’ve guessed something’s going on already.”
“Yeah, I caught that. Marz, too, by the way.”
“Damn, they’re good.” Kat chuckled.
“Or just giant busybodies.”
Grinning, Kat nodded. “They could be that, too.”
Beckett cupped his big hand around Kat’s face. “The first thing I’d like to do is talk to your brother.” Kat couldn’t hold back the groan that spilled out of her, and it made Beckett chuckle. “Trust me, I’m not looking forward to that conversation either. But Nick’s one of my best friends and my teammate. If he doesn’t hear it from me, he’s gonna be pissed. Or more pissed, as the case may be.”
