Hard To Hold On To by Laura Kaye

Let me tell you something. Ink, bikers, men in uniform (kinda in this case) – it’s all one big cliché. But when Laura Kaye writes a plot revolving all three… unf, swoon and gimme more come to mind.

Edward “Easy” Cantrell knows better than most the pain of not being able to save those he loves–which is why he is not going to let Jenna Dean out of his sight. He may have just met her, but Jenna’s the first person to make him feel alive since that devastating day in the desert more than a year ago.

Jenna has never met anyone like Easy. She can’t describe how he makes her feel–and not just because he saved her life. No, the stirrings inside her reach far beyond gratitude.

As the pair are thrust together while chaos reigns around them, they both know one thing: the things in life most worth having are the hardest to hold on to.

In Hard As It Gets we were introduced to a group of 5 ex-SF men. Each carries a burden from a traumatic event they all experienced together. They find a lead to explain it and clear their names. The tale continues in Hard As You Can and while they make significant progress, it’s far from over.

The plus side of all the action? We got Nick and Becca’s happy ending in the first book and Shane and Sara’s in the second. And now – we get Easy’s.

Jenna is brought back to Hard Ink after being rescued from Bruno, Sara’s ex, but she’s weak, bruised and not very coherent. The only things we know for sure is that Easy is the only one she trusts and the only one she feels safe around.

And he’s delicious, OMG he’s so delicious. And I can tell you Jenna thinks the same. And while she’s young and inexperienced – she’s bold enough to go after what she wants.

Easy is overwhelmed by being wanted, by being the one to help, the one needed – he will do anything and everything he can for Jenna. Including opening up to his team about his hidden demons.

There’s another aspect to this book: Sara and Jenna’s relationship. Kaye doesn’t really delve into it so much as providing another layer to the Dean sister’s bond and creates the opportunity for them both to come clean about what they experienced.

I’m dying to get my hands on the next two installments. And naturally get the skinny on everything that’s happened to tarnish their names.

I’ve been waiting for Easy’s story novel from the very beginning, and while we ended up getting a novella – I don’t feel cheated.

My rating: 5
