Ruthie Knox has a new series out in 4 days. It’s unique in more than just being Ruthie’s. The first installment, Truly, is published via Wattpad. Since WP won’t let me embed the code for it, here’s the link to Ruthie’s Wattpad’s profile. All you need to do is create your own account and follow it.
May Fredericks hates New York. Which is fair enough, since New York seems to hate her back. Just weeks after moving from Wisconsin to Manhattan, she receives the world’s worst marriage proposal, stabs her boyfriend with a shrimp fork in a very public venue, and accidentally becomes notorious. And that’s before she gets mugged.
At her wit’s end, May washes up at a Packers bar in Greenwich Village, where she meets a surly, unhelpful guy who hates her shoes and calls her ex a douche.
His name is Ben. He used to be a chef. Now he’s a rooftop beekeeper with anger management issues. She wouldn’t even like him, but he reminds her of home … and he knows where to find all the best food in the Village.
She makes him laugh. He buys her tacos and cowboy boots. The longer they’re stuck together, the better May and Ben get along … and the harder they fall.
TRULY is a quirky, modern New York love story unlike any you’ve read before.
Here’s a little message from Ruthie about the release:
There. Are you excited yet? Have you followed me on Wattpad? Because that’s how you’re going to know when there are new story bits posted.
So what happens next is that on Tuesday I’ll put up the first seven chapters — roughly 100 pages — with about 50 pages to follow every Monday. You can read the story online, or you can download the Wattpad app to your mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android-capable phone or tablet, Google Play thing, or Kindle Fire). If you get the app, you’ll receive story updates on your device automatically. This link shows the places where you can get a mobile version of Wattpad.
Also, since Wattpad is social, you’ll be able to talk to me and to other people about the chapters right as you read them, so when I irritate you you can type right into your phone “WTF RUTHIE KNOX U HOOR!” without even having to pause to find my email address. Which I think is quite an advantage.
Okay, one last thing about Wattpad, and then I’ll shut up: they have a mysterious sex bot! Really. When I uploaded the story, some kind of Sexual Identification Algorithm (which, they probably call it “Sia” for short) scanned my chapters and figured out which ones were the dirtiest, then slapped an R rating on them. And I have to say, I am crazy curious about how this thing works. How does Sia tell the dirty chapters from the ones that just include the word “fuck” (which is all of them)? How does it distinguish sex from making out? Because there are parts with nipples that didn’t get the R rating. There is a sort of travel-and-sex montage that the bot did not have a problem with. But the full-on, straight-up dirty scenes? It sniffed them right out! I want to know the Secrets of Sia. What words does it search for? Thrusting? Moaning? AM SO CURIOUS.
And a last minute treat. Random House created this little quote artsy thingy with a quote from Truly.
I, myself, am dying to read it, and have already lamented the fact that we’ll have a whole year to wait for the sequel. So prepare yourselves – Ruthie’s words are addicting.
